Sorry for not posting in awhile. Been busy settling back into school life. Anyway Wallace and I have been thinking about what kind of wedding gown I'd like. So far we're liking the mermaid silhouette. :)

I especially love the colours from this wedding. I'm thinking of using it myself :)

The Little Blue Box
Here's the post I did on my blog about my engagement ring in August. Enjoy :)
What more could a girl dream of for her engagement ring than one from the timeless Tiffany & Co? I mentioned before that if I were to ever own a piece of jewelry from Tiff & Co, it would be an engagement ring. Because firstly, that's the one piece of jewelry that I will treasure the most (besides the wedding band) in my life, and secondly, that's what Tiffany & Co. are famous for - their diamonds. Yes, so much money for that little blue box can have alot to do with its branding, and you could easily get a bigger diamond for the same price somewhere else, but hey, at the end of the day, you're talking about Tiffany's man, don't mess!
So the story of my ring. I knew that Wallace got it about a year ago. Prior to that, we had gone to Tiffany shops both in Singapore and Australia to try sizes and compare prices. I knew though that he was planning to get it from the US, because it was alot cheaper there. We actually discussed what kind of diamond I would like, because it's a pretty important matter! For his budget (or anyone's for that matter), we could get a bigger diamond of lower quality, or a smaller diamond of better quality. Anyone who knows his diamonds would know that the price of a diamond doesn't just depend on its size, alot of it has to do with the quality as well - the cut, colour, clarity, etc. In the end, his friend in America did him a huge favour of helping him buy the ring. In the process, he was emailing us different diamond options of different specs, and it was super exciting finally deciding on one!
I won't reveal the exact details of the ring, but it is of pretty good quality. A few people have told me the rock looks really big, but it's actually just 0.8 carats. Wallace reckons it's the cut of the diamond that makes it look so brilliant :) (Or maybe also because my fingers are small) And he says that Tiffany diamonds really sparkle compared to other diamonds from elsewhere. I don't know if it's true, but all I know is that I'm more than delighted with what he chose :)
Another thing I must mention. Many guys inherited the diamonds/rings from their mum or grandma, or their parents might want to help pay for the engagement ring. But Wallace spent his life savings on my engagement ring. He bought it with his own blood, sweat and tears. Cliche as that might sound, I'm immensely proud of that, and the ring carries all the more meaning, sincerity, and love in it. It makes me cherish the ring so much more and makes me even more proud to wear it. Wallace is of course proud of this too, that he didn't rely on his parents to buy the ring but bought it with money he worked hard for - all the money he had in fact. It feels like a heavy responsibility on my finger - a small object worth a 5 digit sum! I'm so scared that one day I might lose it or I fail to take good care of it!
Ok enough of my monologue - picture time!
The couple rings that we wore for years, are now retired. I don't remember a period when I wasn't wearing my ring. Wallace's is even bent out of shape.

Now we've upgraded to a little something inside this little blue box.

Inside that is the certificate (contains details of the ring, specifications and all) and full lifetime warranty.

The famous Tiffany Setting. I assure you that it sparkles alot more when you see it in real life. :)

I wear it everyday, because I'm proud to be engaged to the most awesome fiance. During school when we have lab/clincs, I'll wear it around a chain that Abbie got for me for my birthday. But other than that, it's on my finger all the time.
*edit: We walked pass SK jewellry and Wallace decided to be kaypoh and asked how much a 1 carat (1 grade down) costs - less than half the price of what my Tiffany was!

Love this classic yet modern feel of this wedding (especially the umbrella and cake!) but I don't think our chinese elders would be very approving of all the black (which is deemed inauspicious in chinese culture).

The Proposal
Here's the story of Wallace's proposal on my 21st birthday just 5 weeks ago - enjoy :)
(As you can tell, that's where our blog banner photo comes from.) Original post here.
So here's the story I presume everyone's been waiting for. It was my 21st birthday on Saturday, and my friends planned to bring me to Timbre to celebrate, and at the same time watch the Goodfellas perform (they're probably my favourite local band even though they only do covers).
Anyway, for those who don't know, Wallace studies physiotherapy in University of Queensland in Brisbane, and he's graduating in December. His course is 4 years and now that he's in his final year, it comprises of 5-week blocks. This block is his Honours block, which means he stays home most of the time writing stuff. So, I skyped Wallace the night before (it was about 1am his time) and he told me that he was going offshore fishing the whole day from 5am and would only be home at about 10pm. I didn't really suspect anything at that point because had been out fishing quite a few times in the past few weeks.
So on the day of my birthday, I went out with my family for lunch (separate post for that), and then when I got home, I changed up and got ready to go out with my friends :)

Wore my white ASOS bandage dress (Wallace's suggestion)

And my new Nine West heels that I bought on sale from Australia. Freshly painted toenails too, with OPI Teenage Dream.

A few of us got there at 730pm, because we had to get good seats. 4 of them had stuff on before that and would be late.
Nat and I! I later found out that she was the "la la girl" (coined by Wallace) and her job was to make sure I didn't suspect a thing! I must say she did a really great job at it. I was even thinking to myself at one point in the night that if she knew whether anything was going to happen, she wouldn't be acting so normally/saying certain things when we talked about when he was going to propose.

Me, Nat and Jul.

My mocktail - Summer Vibes. I requested for extra cherries and I have it every time I go to Timbre.

Finally by 1030pm all my friends had arrived (there were 9 of us) and the Goodfellas started playing! I was really enjoying the music because I'd been wanting to go back to listen to them for a long time.

All the following photos were taken by Kokwai, the designated cameraman.

Nic and Jul

Josh and Linette

Kokwai! Thanks for all the photos :)

So Nat wrote a dedication for me and asked the band to do something super super special for me. But then I was shaking my head and they said they would get back to me on it. Then nearing the end of the first set, they sang a birthday song for a few people, including me.

Now just a bit of background - I knew that Wallace had gotten the ring a long time ago. He got his friend to help him buy it in the US because it's less expensive there. I knew the specs, the size, the price. But I refused to see it, but he did try it on my finger whilst I closed my eyes. Haha. If you're wondering how he knew my size, we went to Tiffany shops prior to that to try sizes. So I knew that he was going to propose eventually, I just didn't know when. This year after my June trip to visit him, I became quite eager and kept on bugging him to give me clues and all. Finally he told me that it would be by then end of this year, and by the way he put it, it sounded like it might be in September (when I go visit him in Tasmania while he's there for his hospital placement) or in December during his graduation trip around Australia, or when he comes back to Singapore after that.
So the night before my birthday, I did think there was a tiny possibility that he would come back for my 21st birthday. But since I was talking to him till about 2am the night before, I didn't think that he was going to get on a plane because the Emirates flight is at 3am. I even thought to myself, "Wow, if he does make it back to surprise me, that will be quite zai." (Zai is used when someone does something very well) Well I told him to sms me when he got home after fishing, and he said that would be around 10pm his time, which is 8pm Singapore time. So by midnight Aussie time when he hadn't smsed me, I kinda started wondering what was going on. It wasn't too big a thing on my mind though, maybe he just forgot or went out or something.
Back to my birthday - they sang the birthday song, and after that, the lead singer and bassist of the Goodfellas were saying how they had a lot of requests for this song by Boys Like Girls, and that they were going to get a special friend to sing with them. At this point I was thinking it might be Sarah Wee (she's the lead singer of the band 53A and her bf is the lead guitarist of the Goodfellas. She's sung with them before on stage). So I was expecting a girl to walk up on stage, but then a guy went up, and I was like, oh ok who's this guy in a suit? It took me a few seconds to realise that it was Wallace. You must understand ok, he had a completely new haircut when he walked up there, when previously, it was like this:

Needless to say, I was really surprised! After processing the fact that he was back in Singapore and he was here, my heart was beating very fast and I felt really nervous! I was thinking to myself "Ohmygosh, this is really happening, this is it." And I just felt really glad to see him and I just remember beaming at him while he was singing up on stage. For some reason, I didn't cry and I was actually thinking "Eh, why am I not crying?", but I think it was a mix of genuine surprise, the fact that I was just really happy to see him, and also that I was really really nervous at the same time because I knew what was going to happen after that.
Ok enough of me talking, here are some videos!
Lixin behind the scenes with Wallace, plus the whole proposal :)
Taken by Kokwai - my reaction and Two Is Better Than One.
Another video taken by Juliana, Nic's gf :)
His plan was to come down to my table after singing the song to propose, but the bassist told him to come back and they got me up on stage.

If you're wondering why he said "for the last time", it's an inside joke that we have. Haha.

After he asked, I nodded and whispered a "yes" to him, then he gave me the mic so I said "YES"! Lol.

Him putting on the ring. This is the only photo I've got of it (it was really dark because the flash gun couldn't recharge in time).

After we got off stage, I DEMANDED ANSWERS! No la I'm kidding I was just still quite in shock asking him things like When did you get back? How long are you back for? But he was just like, lets go sit down, I need to sit down. Lol. He was extremely nervous before that.

A few of his friends came to support him (Lixin, JLo, Humphrey). Thanks Lixin for all your help and for trying to keep him sane. Haha.

Then my family came!!! They actually wanted to come down for the proposal, but they went to the wrong Timbre! Poor things, they rushed like mad to get down. But even though they missed it, I'm still glad they came :) My mum knew early this year when Wallace was back for the holidays and he asked her out for lunch. My sisters found out the night before my birthday when my mum told them and apparently they were super excited. Haha.

Haha my mum looks really happy here!

And I have no idea what she was doing to Young but she looks like she's attacking him or something! LOL.

Still in disbelief. Everything happened so fast.

I think he was telling me about how he planned it, and he also told me not to be too happy because......... he was going to Malaysia for a 2 day REAL fishing trip from Sunday night to Tuesday night -.-

Birthday cake time!

I remember I was just saying to the Lord, thank you, thank you for everything.

Photo I took of the cake, it was really dark so I had the edit the lighting.

Not very clear here, but I'll have a separate post on the ring soon :)

Listening to a few more songs by the Goodfellas.

Many thanks to the Goodfellas for making this possible.

Wallace had actually planned the proposal for a year and he put alot of effort into it. He emailed the band last year in June, and they replied in August. He told my friends about the plan in December 2010, and at the start of this year when he was back in Singapore, he told me he was going fishing at some illegal spot with Elvine, but in actual fact he went to Timbre to practice with the Goodfellas! Gosh looks like the fishing excuse is pretty good for getting away huh? He told alot of his friends about his proposal plan, so everyone was in on the plan except for me. I'm actually very surprised that no one gave it away or that I didn't find out about it accidentally, as was with all the previous attempted surprises. Haha. The one that counted the most, he got it right. :)
Don't know what I was saying here but thought it was pretty funny.

Thanks guys for being a part of our special day. Kokwai, Nat, Jess, Josh, Linette, Jul, Nic, Young. Love! :)

And also to Lixin for helping Wallace out, and JLo, Humphrey and my family for coming down too :)
This was such an incredible experience, and I'm so thankful and blessed for everything that's happened. For Wallace, my friends and family. Thank you to everyone for all your congratulations and well wishes. Until now it still feels pretty surreal and my heart beats super fast whenever I think of that night. Can't believe it! And of course, I'm filled with love and thankfulness for my *gasp* fiancé for making this the most special birthday ever, for planning out every detail so meticulously, for putting himself out there and doing what few would dare to do. The (nearly) 4 years we've been living in separate countries didn't stop us from loving each other, in fact it has made us stronger both as individuals and as a couple. I love him so much, with all my heart. He's the only man I've ever been with, and ever will be. He is my soulmate, the one who knows me better than anyone else, who loves me more than he loves himself. He is my life, forever and ever.
